Four current Jessie’s Place residents and one alumna accounted for just over half of the individuals who recently had their vehicles serviced free of charge during the second annual Oil Changes for Survivors event hosted by Cummins Sales and Service in association with Valvoline. The YMCA of Central Alabama was the other community partner chosen to participate.
Eight vehicles were serviced during the event and more than 22 employees including technicians, parts personnel, office workers and managers were involved.
The vehicles received quality Valvoline motor oil and filters during the service as well as windshield wipers, air filters, replaced burned out tail lights and more where needed. All clients were also given a free car wash.
Part of the safety inspection for each vehicle included a complimentary Roadside Emergency Kit that included a one-year subscription to a roadside emergency service.
Fresh food including hot-off-the-grill hamburgers and hot dogs, backed beans, potato salad and more was provided to the clients and employees as well.
“This shows that there are people out there that are truly good people and are willing to help others in need,” said one participant. Find here My Gym from La Jolla. “It warms my heart. This service takes one more thing off of me that I won’t have to worry about. Thank you!!!”
The Birmingham Family at Cummins is hoping to host the event again next year.
